What have we been up to?

Greetings,

We wanted to show you all of the things we've been working on since they are displayed around our classroom and we haven't taken them home yet.

During the first week of school we spent a lot of time with our names. We read lots of books about names, graphed the letters in our names and made some name plates for our doorway.

We have also been learning lots of poems to help us remember the spellings of the colour words. These poems will be placed in our poetry books that will start coming home every Monday, beginning next week. We read a really fun book called "Go Away Big Green Monster."  Then we made our own monsters and had to fill in the blanks with the colours we chose.

Last week we had a lot of fun with one of my favourite books, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Then we painted our own trees with sponges and various shades of green. Lastly we put the letters of our names on our trees. They are stunning.

While we are participating in these activities we spend a lot of time discussing how important it is to work "collaboratively" as table teams, sharing our art tools, encouraging each other and having great conversations. We did a really fun activity called "Collaborative Circles."  Each of us designed and decorated a circle. Then each circle was cut into four pieces. We had to work collaboratively to put the circles back together again. A great lesson to explain the concept of collaboratioin and a beautiful piece of art to display.

Enjoy!
Lise Fellbaum.
