1F & the new IPads

Greetings,

Our school applied to be a part of a technology project sponsored by our school board that allowed successful applicants to recieve a 10 pack of iPads for classroom use for four months.  Gosfield North was accepted and 1F students were excited to check them out today.

We paired up with a partner and used a free drawing app called Doodoo Lite to practice spelling our c-v-c words. For example one person would begin with "dig." Their partner would have to change the vowel sound to a short "o" to get the new word.  The next person had to change the ending sound to a "t" to get a new word, etc. This game could easily be played at home too with a paper and pencil and is a fun way to review the short vowels and alphabetic principle.  Being able to do interchange letter sounds quickly to form new words is a great skill for beginning writers as well.  Thanks for your continued support practising our word families each week.  Next week is our last week with short vowels as we finish up with the short "u" family.

We are excited to book the iPads again and work with some math apps too.  Should you come across any great learning apps please let us know.

Enjoy a great weekend.

Lise Fellbaum.
